1. Cover - This month's cover is focused on sports, the ongoing penant races in Major League Baseball and the upcoming NFL and college football season. With all the political and global conflict issues extant, the decision to fall back on sports was an easy one.

2. From the Publisher's Desk - Fearless Rick recounts some of the goals from his youth and how goals change over time, eventually reaching an unflinching conclusion. Additionally, historical events from the month of August feature the end of World War II in the Pacific, Nixon's closing of the gold window in 1971, the explosion of Krakatoa in Indonesia in 1883, and the 1492 voyage to the discovery of the "New World" by Columbus.

3. Contents /Credits - You are on this page. Any questions?

4. Calendar - Olympic events extend through the first full week of August, the NFL's Hall of Fame game is August 1, golf has the President's Cup and the FedEx Cup on tap and NASCAR stages more races.

5. State of the World - As Ukraine continues to define the lack of diplomacy, the Middle East has become a nearly unliveable area, espcially in Gaza. With this month's focus on sports, it's fitting that the Olympics, baseball, and pre-season football are all keeping the public occupied.

6. Feature - Our annual Pro and College Football Forecasts take center stage as the feature article.

7. Sports - Continuing the pre-season NFL and college analysis, on August 6, this page will begin to feature Fearless Rick's Pro & College Football Picks on a weekly basis. Check back every Tuesday and Wednesday, for college picks and NFL picks, respectively.

7a. Sports Extra - Updating the American and National League standings through July 31 with analysis of how the contenders fared over the past 31 days and projections for August and September.

8. Money - What constitutes a "lifetime supply" of anything? Who's life, and at what stage of life are determining factors, but, there is an unmistakable logic to hoarding and planning for the future.

9. Food & Drink - Ah, well, how one goes about making the sauce is the key to Shrimp Scampi and Linguini with Clams. There's no foolproof recipe, but how one manages the cooking and the ingredients makes all the difference.

10. Books - Some of the best books related to or about baseball have been curated and added to the idleguy.com library this month, including Jim Bouton's dynamic, taboo-shattering "Ball Four", and Roy Kohn's classic about the post-war Brooklyn Dodgers, "The Boys of Summer."

11. Public Domain / Toast of the Town - It was a stroke of pure genius to find some of the exceptional journalistic work of Ring Lardner and through that effort was discovered a lauditory piece covering one of the greatest of all time, Ty Cobb.

12. Back Page - Suggestions for next month are put forward without guarantees, but the big news concerns what could be one of the great bargains of all time, the launch of the idleguy.com lifetime subscription.
