Continuing Coverage of MLB Baseball
April 21, 2026 MLB Players of the Day
After belting a solo homer in the second, Giancarlo Stanton stroked a double in the sixth, bring home a pair of runs as the Yankees dropped the Red Sox, 4-0, in the opener of a three-game series at Boston’s Fenway Park.
Stanton’s third home run of the season and three RBI came in support of Yankee starter, LLL Gil, who stymied the Red Sox on two hits over 6 1/3 innings before allowing a trio of relievers to finish the whitewash.
The win kept New York atop the AL East at 14-9, while keeping the Red Sox in the basement of the division, at 9-14. The teams renew their rivalry again on Wednesday.
AL Streaks: Yankees, won 4; Angels, lost 4.
The Reds figured to be improved this season, and so far, they are proving the analysts right, winning their fifth straight on Tuesday, with a convincing 12-6 win at Tampa Bay..
Leading the hit parade for Cincinnati was Elly De La Cruz, who singled and ripped a pair of home runs in six at-bats, driving in five runs in the blowout victory. De La Cruz is off to a solid start to the season, batting .276 with eight homers and 18 RBI.
The Reds maintained control of first place in the NL Central with a 16-8 record, 1 1/2 games up on the Cardinals and Cubs.
The series finale is Wednesday, with the Reds seeking to sweep the three-game set.
NL Streaks: Reds, won 5; Mets lost 12.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. went 3-for-4 with his second home run of the season, leading
the Blue Jays to a 5-2 win in the opener of their tree-game series with the Angels in Los Angeles.
Guerrero’s two-run, 430-foot blast came in the third inning, putting the Jay up, 2-1. After the Angels tied it at 2-2 in the bottom of the frame, Guerrero scored the go-ahead run in the sixth, scoring on a sac fly by Lenyn Sosa. The Blue Jays added single runs in the seventh and ninth as the Toronto bullpen surrendered just one hit over the final four innings.
While Guerrero is batting a robust .354, his power numbers are low, but beginning to improve. He has only two homers and 12 RBI thus far. Coming off their World Series loss, the Blue Jays have struggled out of the gate in 2026 with a 9-13 record, tied with Boston at the bottom of the AL East.
The series continues Tuesday and Wednesday in Los Angeles.
AL Streaks: Yankees, won 3; Royals, lost 8.
The LA Dodgers earned a split in their four-game series in Denver, as Max Muncy singled twice, homered twice, scored four runs and drove in a pair, leading to a 12-3 pounding of the Rockies on Monday.
Muncy and catcher, Dalton Rushing each homered twice in the game. Muncy’s solo shots came in the 2nd and 9th innings. Rushing sent balls deep in the 8th and 9th as the Dodgers added five runs over the last two innings.
Muncy, primarily playing third base, is sporting a .303 average with eight homers and nine RBI. The Dodgers begin a series at San Francisco while the Rockies host San Diego on Tuesday.
NL Streaks: Braves, Cubs, won 6; Mets, lost 11.
Detroit catcher, Dillon Dingler, provided all the offense the Tigers needed to win, 6-2, over Boston, Sunday at Fenway Park.
Dingler had four hits in five at-bats, including a first-inning double that put the Tigers on the scoreboard with a 1-0 lead. Starter Framer Valdez gave up a home run to Willson Contreras in the bottom of the frame, but after that was virtually untouchable, holding Boston scoreless through six after the first inning miscue.
Jahmai Jones homered with two outs and none aboard in the fifth. Three batters later, Dingler swatted his fifth of the year, a three-run shot to center, putting the Tigers up 5-1. Both teams scored a run in the ninth, but it wasn’t nearly enough for the Red Sox, losers of two straight to the Tigers. The four-game series concludes Monday, with the Tigers up two games to one.
AL Streaks: Yankees, won 3; Royals, lost 7.
Maysn Winn stroked a bases-loaded double in the top of the 10th inning Sunday in Houston, clearing the bases in the Cardinals’ 7-5 victory over the Astros, St. Louis’ fifth win in a row, leaving the youngest team in the majors a half game behind the Reds in the already-torrid NL Central race.
Winn, coming off two solid seasons as the Cardinals’ shortstop, is off to a slow start, but his game-winning double could portend for better performance looking ahead. The 24-year-old went 3-for-5, extending his hitting streak to six games. Winn was batting just .154 before the streak began. His average is now up to .222, and the Cardinals are hoping for more of the same.
St. Louis swept the Astros in Houston and remain on the road, heading to Miami Monday for a three-game series with the Marlins. Houston travels to Cleveland for three with the Guardians. The Astros have really struggled thus far, going 8-15, 3 1/2 games out in the AL West, occupying the basement of the division.
NL Streaks: Braves, Cardinals, Cubs, won 5; Mets, lost 11.
Cody Bellinger cracked two home runs and drove in five making a shambles of Kansas City pitching as the New York Yankees played rude hosts to the Royals in a 13-4 slaughter.
Bellinger socked a two run shot to right in the third inning and singled in a run in the 4th before smacking another two-run dinger in the sixth. His second home run of the game made the score 10-0, putting to rest all hopes of a Royals win in the second game of the weekend series.
Bellinger finished 3-for-5 win five RBI, looking forward to a potential sweep on Sunday.
AL Streaks: Yankees, won 2; Royals, lost 6.
Right fielder, Corbin Carroll broke an 8th inning 2-2 tie with a grand slam, leading to a 6-2 Arizona win over the visiting Toronto Blue Jays Saturday in Phoenix, Arizona.
Carrol had gone hitless in two prior at-bats before launching his third home run of the season, but had walked and scored the Diamondbacks’ first run in the bottom of the first. His four RBI gave him 16 so far this season.
Arizona won on Friday, 6-3, and will be looking to sweep the Blue Jays (7-13) on Sunday.
NL Streaks: Braves, Cardinals, Brewers, Diamondbacks, won 4; Mets, lost 10.
The LA Angels devised the perfect formula to cool off the San Diego Padres, winners of eight straight, with an 8-0 whitewash Friday night in Los Angeles.
The key was putting ace starter, José Soriano on the mound for the opener of the three-game series.
Soriano only needed to go 5 2/3 innings as the Angels bats took care of business. By the time he left the bump, the Angels were up 8-0. Without allowing a run on two hits and four walks, striking out eight in the process, Soriano tied Milwaukee’s Aaron Ashby as the only hurlers in the majors with five wins. He also has the lowest ERA, a ridiculous 0.28, and leads the majors in strikeouts at 39.
Ending the Padres’ streak left the Angles a half game back of Texas in the AL West, at 11-10. The Padres continue to chase the Dodgers in the NL West. The men in blue have a 2 1/2 game advantage in the division. The series continues Saturday and Sunday.
AL Streaks: Red Sox, Rangers, Angels, won 2; Royals, lost 5.
Most expert baseball analysts figured the Braves would bounce back from their disastrous and completely out-of-character 2025 season, when they finished 20 games out with a 76-86 record. There was simply too much talent.
The visiting Braves pounded NL East rival Philadelphia, 9-0 Friday night in the opener of a three-game series at Citizens Ball Park, going up 7-0 by the third inning and cruising to their third straight win.
Atlanta’s offensive outburst was led by Austin Riley who socked a three-run homer in the second inning and added a ninth-inning solo shot for good measure. Riley’s four RBI gave him 13 on the year.
The Braves are not only back in good form, they lead the division by four games, the largest lead in the majors. At 13-7, they are the only team in the NL East with a winning record. The three-game series continues over the weekend in Philadelphia.
NL Streaks: Dodgers, won 4; Mets, lost 9.
Sometimes, it’s not what a player does one day, but a combination of what he’s done over a number of days.
While Cleveland’s Parker Messick (3-0) took a no -hitter into the 9th inning in Cleveland’s 4-2 win over Baltimore, he did surrender two hits and was charged with two runs in the top of the 9th, but preserved the win. A good effort in itself, but there were better.
Mike Trout walked three times, scored three times and hit a 7th-inning home run as the Angels downed the Yankees, 11-4, finishing their series split in New York at two games each. Trout’s solo shot normally would be overshadowed by teammate Joe Adell’s eighth inning grand slam, but Trout did something nobody’s ever done before: he homered in four straight games in the series against the Yankees.
Trout actually had five homers during the series, knocking two into the bleachers in the opener, but, opposing player has ever hit homers four straight against the Bronx Bombers, and that record goes back more than 100 years.
With the series concluded, the Angels head home to LA to host the red-hot Mariners, winners of eight straight, while the Yanks welcome in the Kansas City Royals for a three-day weekend series. Both series begin Friday.
AL Streaks: Rays, Royals, won 6; Orioles, Mariners, lost 3.
Landen Roupp took a no-hitter into the sixth inning Thursday at Cincinnati, but his quest for baseball immortality ended with a leadoff single by P.J. Higgins. Roupp stayed on to finish the inning otherwise unscathed, allowing the lonely hit and two walks while fanning six and plunking a couple of Reds hitters in the process of the Giants’ 3-0 win over the Reds.
Roupp, who threw just 87 pitches, improved to 3-1 on the year, lowering his ERA to 2.38.
The Giants won for only the 7th time this season, against 11 losses, leaving them tied with the Rockies at the bottom of the NL West. The Reds remained tied with Pittsburgh atop the NL Central at 11-8. Cincinnati took the series, two games to one.
On Friday, the Reds head to Minneapolis for a three-game series with the Twins while the Giants begin a weekend set with the Nationals in Washington, D.C.
NL Streaks: Padres, won 8; Mets, lost 8.
After suffering back-to-back losses in Minnesota, the Red Sox bounced back with a
9-5 win over the home-standing Twins, riding the bat of Trevor Story, who bounced out of a slump with a three-run homer and a 6th inning double that plated a pair of Boston batters in five at-bats.
Story’s second home run of the season came in the third inning after the Red Sox had taken a 2-1 lead on a fielder’s choice. While Boston starter, Connelly Early was keeping the Twins in check over six strong innings, the Red Sox expanded their lead.
Boston avoided the sweep in Minnesota and heads back to Fenway Park for a weekend series with Detroit starting Friday. The Twins get a rare day off at home, awaiting the red-hot Reds to open a series on Friday.
Despite the loss, the Twins retained their tenuous hold on first place in the AL Central, a game to the good over the Guardians. Boston is 3 1/3 back in the AL East, still occupying the basement.
AL Streaks: Rays, Tigers, won 5; Royals, lost 3.
Cincinnati’s rookie third baseman, Sal Stewart (18 games 55 at-bats in 2025) is making an early run for rookie of the year, with 7 homers, a .323 batting average and 17 RBI.
On Wednesday, he powered the Reds to an 8-3 romp over the visiting Giants, walloping a pair of three-run homers, one in each of the first two innings, a feat, according to ESPN, that’s never been done by a rookie.
Stewart, aged 22, is among the league leaders in multiple categories. He’s tied for 2nd with Pittsburgh’s Brandon Lowe in home runs (St. Louis’ Jordan Walker leads with 8), sixth in RBI, and is tenth in batting average.
The win kept the Reds tied with Pittsburgh atop the NL Central at 11-7. Having taken two straight from San Fran, Cincy will be seeking the sweep Thursday.
NL Streaks: Padres, won 7; Mets, lost 8
Winners of eight of their last nine, Minnesota has worked its way to the top of the heap in the AL Central, with a one-game advantage over Cleveland.
The Twins took four straight from the Tigers, went up to Toronto and took two of three from the Blue Jays and are a win away from sweeping the Red Sox after a 6-0 win Tuesday in Minneapolis.
While Mick Abel (1-2) was shutting out the Red Sox on four hits over seven innings, walking none and striking out 10, Byron Buxton was taking it to Boston starter Sonny Gray and reliever Jack Anderson, launching a pair of solo homers, one in the 3rd off Gray and another in the 6th, the only hit off Anderson in three innings of work. Buxton also singled and scored in both the first and fourth innings.
The victory was Minnesota’s fourth straight with the finale of their three game set with Boston Wednesday.
AL Streaks: Rays, Twins, Tigers, won 4; Red Sox, Royals, lost 2.
Dominic Smith delivered a bases-loaded double in the bottom of the eighth, sending home three Braves in a come-form-behind 6-5 win over the Marlins, Tuesday in Atlanta.
Miami had taken a 5-3 lead in the top of the frame, but the Braves loaded the bases for slugging Smith and reliever Raisel Iglesias worked a hitless ninth for his third save of the year.
Smith, who was 3-for-4 on the night, had earlier singled in a run in the second inning and also doubled. The game result left the Marlins and Braves tied at a game apiece with the rubber match set for Wednesday in Atlanta. The Braves hold a two-game edge over the Marlins in the NL East.
NL Streaks: Padres, won 6; Mets, lost 7.
They call him "The Big Sleep," and for much of the early 2026 season that nickname carried an unintended double meaning. Trent Grisham had been hitting .133 through 45 at-bats — six hits, no home runs — but on Monday night at Yankee Stadium, they all arrived at once. Coming off the bench as a pinch hitter in the fifth inning, Grisham went 2-for-3 with two home runs and five RBI as the Yankees ended a five-game losing streak with an 11-10 win over the Los Angeles Angels.
His first swing produced a three-run homer off Shaun Anderson that lifted New York into a 7-4 lead in the fifth. The Yankees bullpen then did its best to give the game away, as Mike Trout put on a show of his own with two home runs and five RBI to put the Angels back in front. With the Yankees trailing by two in the ninth, Grisham stepped up again with a game-tying two-run shot off closer Jordan Romano. New York walked it off on a wild pitch in the same inning. The two homers were the first of Grisham's season. The Big Sleep is officially awake.
New York's win came in the opener of a four-game series that continues Tuesday through Thursday at Yankee Stadium.
AL Streaks: Mariners, won 4; Astros, lost 8.
While Yankee Stadium was serving up a fireworks show Monday night, Dodger Stadium offered something entirely different — a quiet, methodical clinic in pitching efficiency. Justin Wrobleski pitched two-hit ball over a career-high eight innings as the Dodgers blanked the New York Mets in a 4-0 Los Angeles victory.
The 25-year-old left-hander did not allow a hit until Jorge Polanco singled with one out in the fifth, finishing with just two hits, no walks and two strikeouts on 90 pitches, 61 for strikes, facing only two batters over the minimum. Wrobleski was the first Dodgers starter to record an out in the seventh inning this season. Now 2-0, he has made a compelling case for a permanent rotation spot on a team loaded with pitching options. The Mets, who had gone 20 consecutive scoreless innings heading into Monday, had no answer all night. Tanner Scott retired the side in order in the ninth to close it out. New York has lost six straight and sits last in the NL East.
The three-game series continues Tuesday in LA, the Dodgers up 1-0 on the struggling Mets.
NL Streaks: Padres, won 5; Mets, lost 6.
The Boston Red Sox took two of three from the St. Louis Cardinals with a win on Sunday in St. Louis, and first baseman Willson Contreras was the story of the afternoon. The Venezuelan veteran, acquired from the Cardinals in a December trade, had quite a homecoming against his former club, going 4-for-5 with a home run and three RBI to pace Boston's 9-3 victory. Contreras wasted no time making his presence felt, drilling a two-run homer off Andre Pallante in the top of the first inning — Boston's first home run with a runner on base in more than a week — and set the tone for what became a runaway win. Pallante was roughed up for seven runs on ten hits over five innings and took the loss.
Contreras wasn't just the offensive catalyst Sunday. According to teammates, he had stood up in the hitters' meeting the previous day and challenged the Red Sox to bring more energy, pointing out that the club had been playing flat and that the intensity he saw from his teammates did not match the standard he expected. The message resonated. Boston scored a season-high in runs on back-to-back days, taking the final two games of the series after dropping the opener Friday. Trevor Story also had a big day with four hits and two RBI. Brayan Bello pitched 6⅔ strong innings for the win. The Red Sox, who improved to 8-9 with the victory, now head to Minnesota for a three-game series beginning Monday.
AL Streaks: Athletics, won 5, Astros, lost 7.
The Pittsburgh Pirates dropped a 7-6 decision to the Chicago Cubs on Sunday at Wrigley Field, but second baseman Brandon Lowe gave them every chance to win, putting together one of the more explosive individual performances of the young NL season. Lowe went 2-for-5 with two home runs — including a grand slam in the second inning off Jameson Taillon with two outs and the bases loaded — and drove in five of Pittsburgh's six runs. He also scored twice. The grand slam gave the Pirates an early 5-0 lead that Lowe had a big hand in building.
Despite Sunday’s loss, Pittsburgh took two of three from Chicago at Wrigley. The Pirates have been one of the NL's better stories early in 2026, sitting atop the NL Central with a 9-6 record. Lowe, a former Tampa Bay Ray who joined Pittsburgh this season, now has five home runs on the year. The Pirates return home Monday to open a series against the Washington Nationals at PNC Park, while the Cubs head to Philadelphia to face the Phillies.
NL Streaks: Padres, won 5; Mets, Brewers, lost 5.
The Kansas City Royals are getting outstanding starting pitching in their series against the Chicago White Sox, and veteran right-hander Michael Wacha was the latest to shine Saturday night, throwing eight dominant innings in a 2-0 Royals win at Kauffman Stadium.
Wacha, who turns 35 in July, retired the first five batters he faced on strikes, opening the game with a remarkable 17 consecutive strikes. He went on to allow just four hits and a walk while striking out seven on only 88 pitches, earning his second win of the season against no losses.
The White Sox managed doubles from Andrew Benintendi in the first and Lenyn Sosa in the seventh, but never advanced a runner past second base. Wacha has now allowed just one run over 21 innings across his first three starts this season, good for a glittering 0.43 ERA. Maikel Garcia, who hit a leadoff home run in the first inning, provided all the offense Kansas City needed. Lucas Erceg tossed a perfect ninth for his fifth save. Significantly, Royals starters Seth Lugo, Kris Bubic and Wacha have combined to yield just two runs over 21⅓ innings in the series.
The win improved Kansas City to 7-8 and kept the Sox in last place (5-10). The four-game series concludes Sunday. Each game has produced an identical final score of 2-0. The White Sox won the first on Thursday, the Royals taking the next two.
AL Streaks: Athletics, won 4; Astros, lost 6.
The 30-year-old southpaw has been everything the Nationals hoped for, and on Saturday night in Milwaukee he put together his best start of the young season, carrying a no-hit bid into the sixth inning before Joey Ortiz singled for the Brewers' first hit of the game.
Griffin went 5⅓ innings, limiting Milwaukee to just one hit and three walks while striking out one, in Washington's 3-1 victory.
The Brewers, who managed only two hits in the game, left six runners on base and went 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position. Cionel Pérez, Brad Lord and Clayton Beeter combined for the final 3⅔ innings to complete the win. Washington scored twice in the fifth on run-scoring doubles by James Wood and Nasim Nuñez, then added an insurance run in the ninth.
Griffin is now 2-0 with a 1.76 ERA across his first three starts, and has worked at least five innings while allowing two runs or fewer in each outing. The Nationals improved to 6-8, but remain last in the NL East. Milwaukee dropped its fourth straight and are tied with St. Louis for third place in the NL Central, a game behind the Cubs, with the Reds 1/2 game out.
The series concludes Sunday in Milwaukee with the Nats looking for a three-game sweep.
NL Streaks: Padres, won 4; Mets, Brewers, lost 4.
Kansas City has some strong arms on their pitching staff, and one of the best is lefty Kris Bubic, who tossed seven innings of shutout ball Friday in a 2-0 Royals win over the visiting Chicago White Sox.
Bubic got through his seven innings on just 88 pitches, throwing 59 of them for strikes. Baffling hitters with a combination of fast balls, sliders and sweepers, Bubic allowed just two hits, struck out 11 and walked one, getting his second win of the season against one loss. Matt Strahm and Lucas Erceg mopped up with hitless frames in the eighth and ninth, respectively.
The result left the Royals at 6-8, just ahead of the 5-9 White Sox in the AL Central division. The two teams have traded 2-0 results over the first two games of their four-game set in KC, with weekend games remaining.
AL Streaks: Athletics, won 3; Astros, lost 5.
The Dodgers appear intent on defending their World Series title from last season. Off to a 10-3 start, they have a 2 1/2 game edge on Arizona and San Diego in the NL West with the best record in the majors.
Part of the reason for LA’s success is their awesome lineup of hitters. Every game seems to produce another star performer. Such was the case Friday night at Dodger Stadium as Max Muncy stepped up and swatted three solo homers, the last of which won the game in walk-off fashion, 8-7 over the visiting Texas Rangers.
Muncy launched solo shots in the first and fourth innings, also scoring on a double and home run by Andy Pages in the sixth and eighth. With the game tied at 7-7, Mucky swatted his third homer, a 401-foot blast to right center with two down and the bases empty, to win the opener of the three-game series which resumes Saturday.
Muncy finished 4-for-5, with three homers, three RBI and five runs scored in one of the best individual performances thus far in 2026.
NL Streaks: Braves, Cardinals, Diamondbacks, Padres, Giants, won 3; Mets, Phillies, Brewers, Reds, lost 3.
Jeffrey Springs held the New York Yankees hitless for 6 1/3 innings Thursday night, leading the homeless A’s (moving to Las Vegas next season) to a 1-0 victory at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, Thursday.
Sprngs allowed a one-out single by Ben Rice in the bottom of the seventh, but quickly erased the next two batters, exiting the inning holding tightly to a 1-0 lead. Justin Sterner and Hogan Harris held the Yanks hitless over the eighth and ninth, securing the win. Springs took the win, gong seven full innings, allowing one hit and a pair of walks, fanning six for his second win over the season without a loss. The win gave the Athletics the series, two games to one.
The Yankees continue to hold first place in the AL East by two games over the Orioles at 8-4. They head south to Tampa Bay for a three-game series beginning Friday while the A’s head across town to play three with the Mets at Citi Field. The A’s are 5-7 and trail Texas in the AL West by two games. The Rangers are the only team n the division with a record above .500 (7-5).
AL Streaks: Twins, won 4; Mariners, Tigers, lost 5.
It took 12 innings for the Padres to knock off the Rockies, 7-3, Thursday in San Diego, but Xander Bogaerts made sure they got their money’s worth by winning the game with a walk-off grand slam homer.
Not only did Bogaerts win the game in dramatic fashion, his long shot to left came just an inning after he had tied the score at 3-3. Both the Rockies and Padres scored single runs in each of the 10th and 11th innings.
Bogaerts’ homer was his second of the season, and his four RBI doubled his total for the year. The win for the Padres was the first in a four-game series between the NL West foes which continues over the weekend.
NL Streaks: Marlins, Braves, Cardinals, Diamondbacks, Padres, Giants, won 2; Mets, Phillies, Nationals, Brewers, Reds, lost 2.
Angel Martinez capped off a four-hit night, in the Guardians’ 10-2 win over the visiting Royals with his biggest, a grand slam round-tripper that put the game away for good in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Prior to the big swat, Martinez had singled twice and doubled, but was left stranded each time and hadn’t driven in a single run. His fourth hit in five at-bats changed that in a big way, helping the Guardians to their second straight win over the Royals, taking the series two games to one, and cementing their lead in the AL Central, 1 12 games to the good over Minnesota.
On Thursday, Kansas City returns home to open a series with the White Sox at 7:40 pm ET. The Guardians get a day off and open a series in Atlanta Friday.
AL Streaks: Orioles, Twins, Rangers, won 3; Mariners, lost 5.
Rafael Devers broke open a scoreless tie in the sixth inning with a three-run homer, leading the Giants to a 5-0 win over the floundering Phillies, losers of two straight, Wednesday in San Francisco.
Devers also singled home an insurance run in the eighth, giving him four RBI on the day. The home run was Devers’ second of the year in what has been a slow start for the former Red Sox infielder and DH. Batting just .220, he’s driven in just six runs as the Giants were off to a 3-8 start prior to the back-to-back wins over Philadelphia.
The Phillies took the first game of the series, but were blanked the next 18 innings. San Francisco shut them out, 6-0 on Wednesday and 5-0 on Thursday.
Both teams travel Thursday, with the Phillies returning home to meet the Diamondbacks and the Giants flying coast-to-coast to play three in Baltimore. Both series begin Friday.
NL Streaks: Rockies, won 4; Brewers, Phillies, Nationals, lost 2.
The Yankees want a full-time third baseman with power and they may have found him in Amed Rosario, who belted a pair of home runs Tuesday in New York’s 5-3 win over the visiting Athletics, the first of a three-game series.
Rosario got the Yankees on the board with a solo shot in the second inning, his first dinger of the season. After the A’s had taken a 3-1 lead in the third, Rosario came up big in the Yankees’ 8th, slugging a no-doubter, 414 feet to left with two aboard after Giancarlo Stanton had singled home a run. New York reliever, David Bednar, tossed a hitless 9th for his fifth save.
Rosario has been subbing at third with Ryan McMahon, who has solid fielding skills but is batting just .087 this season. Rosario was picked up by the Yankees during the 2025 campaign but played in only 16 games last year. He is a lifetime .271 hitter who has been around, having spent time with the Mets, Guardians, Dodgers, Nationals, and Reds.
The result left the Yankees at 8-2, atop the AL East and sank the A’s to the bottom of the AL West, at 3-7. The series continues Wednesday and Thursday at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx.
AL Streaks: Orioles, Twins, Rangers, won 2; Blue Jays, lost 6.
Paul Skenes took a no-hitter into the 6th inning in Pittsburgh’s 7-1 win over the visiting Padres, after San Diego had broken the Pirate’s 5-game winning streak in the series opener Monday, with a 5-0 win.
Skenes was sharp, fanning six in his outing, which ended with one out in the 7th, when Xander Bogaerts cut Pittsburgh’s lead in half (2-1) with a solo homer. Skenes’ no-hit bid had been terminated an inning earlier by Fernando Tatis Jr., who singled with one out but was eliminated by an inning-ended double play.
Three Pirate relievers finished up without allowing any more Padres’ runs. Pittsburgh put the game away with five runs in the eighth. Skenes got the win, going to 2-1. Officially, 6 1/3 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 6 K, 2 BB. The series concludes Wednesday at PNC Park in Pittsburgh.
NL Streaks: Reds, Dodgers, won 5; Marlins, lost 2.

José Soriano gave up a first inning solo homer to Drake Baldwin, but, after that he was pretty much untouchable, picking up his third win without a loss as the Angels downed the visiting Braves, 6-2, Monday night.
Soriano dominated, allowing just two singles and no walks while fanning 10, getting first strikes on 16 of the 26 batters he faced, throwing 97 pitches, 69 of which were strikes. Soriano leads the majors with his three victories along with Milwaukee’s Aaron Ashby.
