It took two overtimes and a combined 232 points, but Alabama eventually disposed of Arkansas, 117-115, Wednesday night at the Coleman Coliseum in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
Despite a remarkable single-game performance by Arkansas freshman point guard, Darius Acuff Jr., the Crimson Tide rallied from a 10-point halftime deficit for the win, leaving the two teams tied in the SEC at 9-4, both chasing 11-2 Florida as the regular season winds down.
Acuff’s overall game has to rank among the best this season. The 6’3” native of Detroit, Michigan, tallied a career-high 49 points, made 16 of 27 from the field, including a 6-for-10 effort from behind the arc, 11 of 12 free throws, five assists and five rebounds. Acuff scored 12 points in the final 3:21 of regulation, including a 3-pointer which tied he game at 95-all with 11.9 seconds left.
Acuff broke the Arkansas single-game scoring record for a freshman with his 49 points, smashing Todd Day’s former mark of 43. He’s been named SEC freshman of the week a record seven times, and will more than likely get his eighth after Wednesday’s performance. He fell two points short of the Arkansas all-time single game record of 51, held by Rotnei Clark from the 2009-10 season.
Acuff’s big night overshadowed Alabama’s Labaron Philon Jr.’s 35 points and Aiden Sherrell’s double-double of 26 points and 13 boards.
The Razorbacks will be looking to get back on the winning track when they host Missouri on Saturday, February 21. Alabama will be in action the same day, at LSU. Both teams have just five games left on the regular season schedule.

In what was probably the most entertaining game of a night full of Top 25 action,
Jaron Pierre Jr. rattled home 25 points and Boopie Miller struck for 23 as SMU upended #21 Louisville, 95-85, at Moody Coliseum in Dallas Texas.
Louisville’s Mikel Brown Jr. did all he could with a game-high 29 points, but the Mustangs, who took a 52-49 lead into the break, kept at it, as the game was tied and the lead changed hands multiple times in the second half.
It wasn’t until Pierre sank two free throws at the 5:02 mark that the game turned in SMU’s favor, up 83-78. Down the stretch, the Mustangs outscored Louisville, 12-7, forcing multiple turnovers and potentially making their case for inclusion in the NCAA tourney in March. In the final 4:42, Miller scored six points and Pierre four, each player assisting on a bucket.
Pierre was just 1-for-6 from outside the 3-point line, but he made 9 of 13 closer to the hoop, adding four points from the foul line and seven rebounds.

With 20 of the Top 25 teams in action Saturday, there were few surprises, but of the one that mattered most was in the Big 12, as
J.T. Toppin delivered one of the best games of his collegiate career with a game-high 31 points and 13 rebounds as
#16 TexasTech knocked off #1 Arizona, 78-75, in overtime.

Toppin rested for only one minute, knocking down 13 of 22 shots with one 3-pointer and a 4for-6 effort from the foul line. Having already defeated highly-ranked Michigan (91-88) and Illinois (92-90, OT), hosting the #10 Michigan State Spartans didn’t faze the rising Wisconsin Badgers, especially point guard, Nick Boyd, who nearly smothered Michigan State all by himself, scoring 20 of his game-high 29 points in the first half. The Badgers surged to a 17-point lead at the break and continued to hold their edge through the second half in a 92-71 rout, delighting the 16,838 in attendance at the Kohl Center in Madison, Wisconsin.

The contest was mostly decided midway through the first half, as Wisconsin went on a 15-0 run to establish an 18-point lead, after which Michigan State never fully recovered. The Spartans rallied to within nine points with less than five minutes left in the first half, but that’s as close as they would get.
The victory tied Wisconsin (18-7, 10-4) with Michigan State (20-5, 10-4) in the Big Ten, three games behind 13-1 Michigan, with a trio of teams with three losses - Illinois (11-3), Nebraska (10-3), Purdue (10-3) - just ahead of them.
