The Year in Review

...continued from page 5

L is for LAWFARE, the term used to describe the legal cases brought against Donald Trump and some of his supporters or former staffers in an effort to derail his presidential bid in 2024.

Among the more notorious and odious lawsuits brought against Trump were the Stormy Daniels hush money trial, the Federal Election Interference case surrounding the bogus January 6 "insurrection" at the Capitol, an election interference case in Georgia, and a classified documents case brought by federal prosecutors.

While Trump was convicted, but not sentenced in the Stormy Daniels case, he was either cleared or the cases withdrawn in all others.

M is for MUSK, Elon, wealthiest man in the world, thanks to innovations like electric cars, reusable rockets, and solar power systems.

N is for NVIDIA (NVDA), the chip-maker company that returned a stunning 178% to investors over the course of 2024. It is a darling of Wall Street and is one of the so-called Magnificent Seven tech giants that dominate the market.

O is for OHTANI, Shosei Ohtani the National League MVP who led the league in Home Runs, RBI, a slew of other offensive categories and who helped the Los Angeles Dodgers win the World Series, taking down the New York Yankees, four games to one. Ohtani was named IdleGuy.com Athlete of the Year.

P is for PUTIN, Vladimir, president of the Russian Federation. Putin was last year's (2023) IdleGuy Man of the Year, for his patient handling of the Ukraine conflict which continues to this day, and his generally calm demeanor towards enemies in NATO countries. This fall, Putin presided over the 16th annual BRICS summit in the Russian city of Kazan.

Honorable Mention: Jerome POWELL, Chairman of the Federal Reserve.

Q is for QUINCY JONES, American musician, record producer, composer, and band leader, who passed away on November 3, 2024. Jones won 28 Grammy Awards in a career that spanned seven decades, from his jazz conducting in the 1950s, to compositions and arrangements for Frank, Count Basie, and, most prominently, Michael Jackson. Jones produced three of Jackson's top-selling albums: Off the Wall (1979), Thriller (1982) and Bad (1987).

Jones also composed film scores for The Pawnbroker (1965), In the Heat of the Night (1967), The Italian Job (1969), and The Color Purple (2016) among others.

R is for RED LOBSTER, the seafood chain that spanned America for more than 50 years, operating over 500 restaurant locations, declared bankruptcy in 2024, and was purchased by a private investment firm. The company famously lost money on "endless" shrimp and crab promotions when wholesale seafood prices rose.

S is for SYRIA, the Middle East nation which had endured a brutal civil war which began in 2011, as protests over the rule of Bashar al-Assad erupted and turned bloody. In December of 2024, Assad fled the country, leaving it in shambles and in the hands of various factions, from ISIS rebels, to Israeli opportunists, to Turks and Kurds in the north, and the Syrian Free Army, in the south and east.

T is for TRUMP, Donald J., who won re-election to the presidency of the United States following the stolen election of 2020, defeating Kamala Harris soundly, both by popular vote and in the Electoral College, 312-226. Trump supporters also backed his Republican party, taking control of the House of Representatives and the Senate. Trump is scheduled to be inaugurated on January 20, 2025, to a four-year term.

U is for UKRAINE, the country utterly war-ravaged since the invasion by Russian forces in February, 2022. Russia has advanced on multiple fronts, but especially along the Donbas. NATO continues to supply Ukrainians with weaponry, but the country has grown war-weary and military enlistments are nearing crisis levels.

It is expected that once Donald Trump is sworn into office on January 20, 2025, negotiations will begin between the U.S., Russia, and Ukraine, with a lasting peace the ultimate goal.

V is for VOLKSWAGEN. Europe's top carmaker, the German company was hit with nationwide worker strikes in in November and December, finalizing an agreement in late December that will purportedly save jobs and keep plants operational. The company had previously spoken openly about plant closures and layoffs as turmoil over electric vehicles and the German economy became unavoidable issues.

W is for WEGOVY, one of a variety of weight-loss drugs prescribed to millions of overweight Americans too lazy to exercise and too stupid to eat a balanced diet.

Apparently, people are willing to endure side effects from the injectable drug, including nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, constipation, stomach (abdomen) pain, headache, tiredness (fatigue), upset stomach, dizziness, feeling bloated, belching, low blood sugar in people with type 2 diabetes, gas, stomach flu, heartburn, runny nose or sore throat, thoughts of suicide, kidney failure, pancreatitis, and depression.

Dishonorable Mention: WOKE agenda, WEF, WHO (World Health Organization, not the musical group).

X is for X.COM, Twitter rebranded under Elon Musk after the world's richest man bought the company in 2023 and laid off nearly 80% of the workforce. X.com has become a beacon for free speech, in opposition to other social media platforms which routinely censored posts and punished users that were not aligned with the "woke" agenda.

Y is for YOON SUK YEOL, the South Korean president who declared martial law on December 3rd, which was quickly overruled by the legislature, and continued to avoid impeachment, until finally in the waning hours of December 31, a judge issued an arrest warrant for the wayward leader. This saga will certainly carry forward into 2025, though Western mainstream media continues to ignore the story completely or downplay its importance.

Dishonorable Mention: Janet YELLEN, demented, slow-witted Treasury Secretary who oversaw the largest budget deficits in American history.

Z is for ZELENSKY, Volodymr, unelected "leader" of Ukraine since early in 2024, who, throughout the year, oversaw the mindless slaughter of roughly half a million Ukrainian soldiers in an unwinnable war against Russia.
