IdleGuy.com August 2025, Volume 2, #8

1. Cover - This month's cover features a background of the Ohio State University's famous "Horseshoe" stadium in Columbus, Ohio, a mecca of college football.

2. From the Publisher's Desk - What started out as a proposition to settle international conflicts by playing games - incluidng ping-pong and tennis - turned into something a little more serious, like, um, race crimes and illegal immigration.

3. Contents /Credits - Mama. I'm home.

4. Calendar - Some things might interest some people in this month's calendar of events. Otherwise, bang sand.

5. State of the World - The state of the sporting world is featured, including revealing stats on the enormous number of people who attend live sporting events.

6. Feature - IdleGuy.com's annual Pro Football Forecast has the rundown on every NFL team, even the Dallas Cowboys. There's more to chew on in this NFL preview than a lifetime supply of beef jerky.

7. Sports - College football kicks off in what's being called "Week Zero", but idleguy.com has the skinny on the Top 25 college teams to start the season. Where they'll finish is another story for, um, the December issue.

7a. Sports Extra - Every day there's a MLB game played, Fearless Rick chooses a Player of the Day from the National and American Leagues. Updated daily, like every day, inclusive of weekends, because, like rust, MLB never rests.

8. Money - Rather than save for rainy days or invest in companies that might not have your best interests at heart, late summer and fall are prime months for football and baseball wagering. IdleGuy.com looks at some of money management and betting strategies that may actually turn a profit.

9. Food & Drink - The IdleGuy.com Experimental Kitchen (yeah, scary, right?) took on the task of turning garden vegetables - mostly peppers and tomatoes - into various sauces. Tips, procedures, and possibly, recipes are offered.

10. Books - Sports books published after the year 2000 are this month's selections. Big Hair and Plastic Grass, by Dan Espstein, offers a nostalgic look back at the baseball culture of the funky 1970s. A Few Seconds of Panic is Stafan Fatsis' engaging account of his tryout as a place-kicker for the Denver Broncos. Sam Walker's Fantasyland is an indulgent trip inside the world of fantasy baseball. Finally, Jeff Pearlman touchingly recalls the life of Walter Payton, in Sweetness.

11. Public Domain / Toast of the Town - The short story by Russian writer, Leo Tolstoy, concerns man's quest for arable land and eventual prosperity. It may be the best public domain literature IdleGuy.com has ever posted.

12. Back Page - What's coming up in September includes Fearless Rick's Football Picks on a rolling basis, a special report on getting back to work or back to school, and things to eat after Labor Day, maybe.

Marketplace - Find things you need or maybe want in the latest addition to the growing IdleGuy.com universe. Did we mention IdleGuy.com often enough on this page?

Daily Idler - Where to go when you have nothing better to do and have already scanned the entire internet, the Daily Idler offers links to sites on topics like BEER, MONEY, and SPORTS, the things that guys - and even some women - find to be esstial parts of life in our mad, mad world.

Home - Links to every issue idleguy.com has published, with cute pictures of the covers.

I owned one mansion, one farm, one lake house, a very successful business, Dodge Viper and several other new cars and was phucking miserable. Materialism is the second biggest scam ever perpetrated on authentic human beings and I did not understand that until hitting the age of 40 on this prison planet. The worshipers of Mammon are the ones trying to keep up with Jones. They base their success on the way others see them and it's all fake. I know peeps that appear to be wealthy and successful that are practically living hand to mouth. A narcissist can not create anything; a narcissist can only steal from others and mimic. - anonymous
