1. Cover - This month's attempt at a thematic collage includes images of pumpkins, falling leaves, baseball players, football, and goblins with a smattering of political overtones.

2. From the Publisher's Desk - Fearless Rick lives up to his name by essentially being a pacifist. He owns a gun, but has never fired it, and hopes that he never has to do so. Just how do people of a peaceful nature fit into the seemingly violent world of the 21st century?

3. Contents /Credits You are here. But, you knew that already.

4. Calendar - Among the more notworthy events on the current calendar is the BRICS Summit October 22-23-24, held in Kazan, Russia, the 16th annual meeting of the world's leading nations from the so-called "Global South", including China, Russia, Brazil, South Africa, and India.

5. State of the World - In keeping with the international theme, the BRICS Summit is a big deal. How big? An exploration into the dynamics of the world's best hegemony-reducer says it's HUGE.

6. Feature - Americans will be voting all through October and into the first five days of November, when the actual "Election Day" takes place on the 5th. An examination of the two main candidates for the office of president - Donald Trump and Kamala Harris - offers some insight to the future of the "essential nation", the United States.

7. Sports - Fearless Rick and his trusty partner, Coin Flip, offer picks and predictions for all NFL games and selected college encounters every week in one of the most popular, updating pages in the idleguy.com menagerie.

7a. Sports Extra - It's October, which means baseball's post-season is underway. Stick with updates on the Sports Extra page for previews of the various series and analysis, from the wild card metch-ups all the way to the World Series.

8. Money - Making the case for gold and silver is an exploration into the rationale for precious metals amid a time in which madness and currency debasement seem to be the overriding themes of the era.

9. Food & Drink - From deep in Fearless Rick's computer archives leapt the perfect accomplement for the fall: the Masterpiece Chili Recipe, which has only been attempted and completed - to the best of human knowledge - once. And it was a huge success. In the sidebar, thoughts on mulled win emerge.

10. Books - The first two installments of the Harvard Classics, with works by Plato, Benjamin Franklin, William Penn, and Marcus Aurelius featured. John Gray's subtle, compelling "The Silence of Animals" explores the depths of human existence.

11. Public Domain / Toast of the Town - What could be more appropriate for the spookiness of October than a story by the master of the macabre himelf, Edgar Allan Poe. "The Imp of the Perverse" isn't so much horror than a frightening inspection of how the human mind copes with guilt and rage.

12. Back Page - Contact form for idleguy.com, suggestions for the November issue.

Daily Idler - Dude, really, beer, money, news, sports, crossword puzzles, soduku, and a dail quiz... How can you go wrong?
